Located under the arches of Comercio Square, the Martinho Da Arcada, is the oldest cafe in Lisbon. Opened in 1782, and occupying one of the first buildings rebuilt in the Square after the earthquake of 1755. It recalls the days when it was a favorite spot of well-known personalities of Portuguese culture, Mário de Sá Carneiro, Almada Negreiros, and Fernando Pessoa whose image is painted on the wall. Today it’s a great place to relax, while having a cafe, glass of wine, or a wonderful lunch or dinner.
